In her letter to the Salem, Oregon Statesman-Journal, published December 7, 2008, (Thank President Bush for keeping U.S. safe), Diana Powers Evans of Salem suggests that we owe President Bush our thanks for our safety. This is ridiculous.
Bush has kept us safe from what? While we’ve heard lots of assertions that we’ve been protected from near-constant terror attacks, we’ve no evidence this is true. And, while the President and his team were earning our undying gratitude for our supposed safety, they were raiding the treasury for their adventures and allowing others to exploit the inherent wealth of the nation.
Those who would credit the President for our safety deserve the fees and interest on this account. For my part, I’m not ready to take on this particular charge account.
